Snow and Fire
Depart your hotel in the evening for Tierra Mayor Valley, located 15 minutes northeast of Ushuaia in the mountains. Then it’s off on a 30-minute snowshoe walk. You cross the valley on this magic wintry night, reaching the line of torches that leads you through the woods into the gathering area. Enjoy live guitar music and a delicious dinner, hot wine and the night’s specialty: “lumberjack’s coffee.”
The excursions begins at 6 p.m. and ends at midnight.
Available from July to September.
Dog Sledding Adventure
Ride out of town through the scenic Andes Mountains for 15 minutes to reach Valley Tierra Mayor. Meet your fellow excursion-mates and prepare for a fun, snowy day. Upon arrival, choose a Husky sled dog team and take off across this great snowy valley. Once you’ve crossed the valley, the old path of the lumberjacks leads into a forest of hundred-year-old lenga beech trees. Here you’ll stop at the Axeman’s Shelter (a small log cabin heated by firewood). Then the snowshoe walk begins to the Alvear ice falls and the valley lookout point. The walk back to the shelter is much easier, since it’s downhill all the way, and after a short stop, the walk on snowshoes continues to the starting point in Valley Tierra Mayor.
Duration: Half day excursion
Available from July to September
