Antarctic Fly-Sail Expedition
Fly One Way And Sail The Other – The Best Of Both Worlds – 21 Days
The best of all worlds – an intimate up-close Antarctica experience on an Expedition Sailing Yacht combined with the convenience and time-saving travel of Flying across the Drake!
Explore Antarctica on an Expedition Sailboat where we will encounter penguin colonies, breaching whales, and leopard Seals. Each day is something new – we take in what Antarctica gives to us, with the flexibility of a small yacht. We will visit penguin colonies and watch many types of seals. We will explore from eye level with zodiac tours and kayaks. Plus, if the weather allows, anyone interested can sleep a night ashore!
We will be reminded of the brave souls who have come before us when we see remains of old whaling stations. If we are lucky we may even get to visit an active national science station while in the peninsula.
No matter what we do and no matter what the weather, your time in Antarctica will be one of a life time. Your trip will be filled with fantastic photos, unforgettable evening zodiac rides through the ice, watching sculpted icebergs floating past. It is unlike any other place you will experience on the planet.
At the end of your trip – relax and digest your experience with two nights at Lakutaia Lodge in Puerto Williams, Chile, a remote town on Navarino Island facing the famous Beagle Channel. From here explore the flora, fauna, and native Yaghan history of the island by visiting the museum and exploring during excellent half day and full day hikes.
Your trip will start and end in Ushuaia. The transfer from Puerto Williams, Chile, to Ushuaia is included in the price, as is the two nights in Puerto Williams, one night in Punta Arenas, and the transfer from Punta Arenas to Puerto Williams. See itinerary below for full details.
*Note the Feb 6 trip will have the Lakutaia lodge portion at the start of the trip.

As we sail south we will enter the Drake Passage and pass the infamous Cape Horn
We spend these days crossing the Drake Passage. All are encouraged to take a go at the helm. Often albatross are spotted and are welcome companions as we cross the Drake passage. Watching and waiting to see our first iceberg. We will see changes as we cross the Antarctic Convergence, where the water temperature suddenly drops to near zero!
Day 5 17
Each day will be different and can include zodiac tours, landings at penguin colonies, exploring historic scientific bases and whaling sites, kayaking. The flexibility allows you to take full advantage of whatever Antarctica gives to us – be it an incredible southern sunset or a breaching whale. We can stop and enjoy.
While South there will be an active scientist onboard, so all guests are invited to participate in real Antarctic research. In the evenings the scientist will present on his/her research, as well as pressing current Antarctic issues. The scientist will be a part of the team and ready to answer questions at dinner, or on deck throughout the day or night!
We also have a few days built in for weather for our southern Drake crossing.
We sail to King George Island and board your flight to Punta Arenas. Look out your window and get a last glimpse at the white continent.
Luckily your adventure doesn’t end yet! Spend an included night in Punta Arenas and explore this historic city known both as stopover for famous Antarctic Explorers and the home base of old sheep barons.
Day 19 20
